How to Apply for Internships

Step One

Schedule an appointment with Dr. Sahliyeh in GAB 470, or send him an email. Begin preparing application materials required in the advertisement. See the Registrar if you need an unofficial or an official copy of your transcript. [more]

Step Two

The International Studies Major and the department will evaluate each application that is submitted for consideration. You will be notified if your application is forwarded to the agency or firm. [more]

Step Three

After receiving notification from the International Studies Major and the department, an interview will need to be scheduled with the organization for which you are applying. You are responsible for contacting the organization and scheduling the appointment. All interviews must be completed no later than the 1st week of university classes. The department will notify you with the information that you will need to schedule an interview with the agency or firm.

Step Four

Each organization will conduct interviews and notify the department as to the individuals they wish to have intern with them. You will need to take a copy of your schedule with you to the interview so that you may indicate what hours you will be available to work. All internships require availability between 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Step Five

To earn credit for your internship you must complete an enrollment form and have it signed by the International Studies Major Director (Dr. Sahliyeh). You will receive an undergraduate code for the course so that you may register.

Step Six

Report the first week of class to your assignment, and to Dr. Sahliyeh to discuss course requirements (be sure to read the class syllabus).
